Let's celebrate NAIDOC together, you are welcomed to come and help colour the Interactive Chalk Artwork in the Toowoomba Refectory.
The inspiration behind the artwork derives from this year's theme, The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy and is paying homage to the Emu spirit and Toowoomba's surrounding country.
In Aboriginal Australian culture, the emu symbolizes various concepts including creator spirits, connection to the land, and pathways to knowledge. It's also a national symbol in Australia's Coat of Arms, representing forward movement. Additionally, the emu is a powerful totem with unique characteristics that can offer guidance and promote spiritual growth. First Nations Dreaming emus were more than just birds. they were creator spirits that soared through the skies above, looking over the land. The emu is a prominent figure in Aboriginal cultures, with its movements in the sky, particularly the "Emu in the Sky" constellation.
